Wikipedia Week on Retro Yakking

It’s eight years this month since Wikipedia was formally launched by a bunch of nerds a bloke called Jimmy Wales and his cronies. Incidentally, it’s also exactly eight years since the modern internet vandal was born - seems The Free Encyclopedia has spawned a new breed of troll.
Wikipedia has become nothing short of an internet juggernaut, a mainstay at the top of the Alexa traffic rankings, dominating web culture with its ‘finger on the pulse’ up-to-the minute, accurate reporting (possibly). Of course, this makes it eminently ripe for parody and mickey-taking, something that you’ll hear plenty of in the coming seven days.
This week is Wikipedia Week on Retro Yakking, during which this blog will be focusing on the lighter side of everyone’s favourite source of misinformation. Yak followers despair not, however, as this brave statement is based on the fact I can find enough topics to write for seven days. For this reason, the parody news and general irreverence may well continue alongside the Wiki based posts.
Oh yeah, and I hereby retrospectively declare last week Confectionery Week because for some reason there seemed to be an awful lot of food-related posts. I hope you enjoyed it and apologise for making anyone break their diets. You have my permission to shout profanities and hurl Ryvitas at me.

Interesting …
I always use Wikipedia … They’ve got a lot of medical stuff too. Obviously, I cross check the sources because I can’t quote Wikipedia at the hospital… Lol!
Would you believe that while working towards my Master’s on-line (at an unnamed school), professors had to specifically state in the syllabus that Wikipedia cannot be used as a source in a Master’s-level paper? Yikes! It’s a nice tool for some background info or explanation of something you don’t understand, but more than that…
