Five funny football celebrations
It will not have escaped your attention that a particularly exciting European Cup tie took place last night, during which there were a whopping eight goals. That’s more than we usually get in a day’s worth of Premiership football.
Well, this might might be exciting for some football fans, but I felt let down somewhat. For all those goals flying in left, right and centre, there wasn’t a single choreographed celebration!
Retro Yakking is now going redress the balance with a selection of decidedly spectacular and humorous goal celebrations from recent times, so dust off your sheepskin coat and ready your best Motty impression. Remarkable.
.
Julius Aghahowa - triple backflip
I love these kinds of characters that put more effort into their death-defying celebratory stunts than their actual game. Nigerian striker Julius Aghahowa has a celebration more unusual than his name… if only he could actually score first.
.
Bernardo Corradi - Hadoken
Manchester City’s Italian frontman Bernardo Corradi does his best impression of Ken from Street Fighter II. If you look carefully, his mate (Ryu?) is either being hit by the invisible fireball or jumping over it…
.
Lee Bradbury and Bournemouth FC - boxing
Lee Bradbury single-handedly takes on the rest of his team in a Bruce Lee-esque celebration. Note the WWF-style amateur dramatics!
.
Jimmy Bullard - washing cart ride
I’m breaking my own rules with this one a bit, as I don’t think they’re celebrating a goal here. In fact, as his Wigan Athletic team-mates in this video will testify, Jimmy Bullard does not need an excuse to prat about. Simply weird.
.
Sunday League team - stupidest goal celebration ever?
This team takes forever to set up their elaborate goal celebration… so long, in fact, that by the time they have noticed, the other team have kicked off and scored! Classic.

In closing, I would like to thank Wiggy over at Wiggy’s World for inspiring me to create this post with a video of Temuri Ketsbaia kicking the advertising hoardings. I recommend his blog for a big slice of British life.
