ICC World Twenty20: Angelo Mathews incredible piece of fielding
This afternoon’s match between West Indies and Sri Lanka may have been relatively meaningless, with both teams having already passed through to the next round, but it seems somebody forgot to tell Angelo Mathews.
Check out his breathtaking stop down on the boundary, which can only be described as remarkable. Having parried a ball surely destined for the boundary ropes, he made an incredible leap whilst outside the boundary to parry the ball a second time back into the field of play.
It may not have got his team a wicket, but it did save a significant number of runs, arguably a greater commodity in the 20 over form of the game. It also helped his team to a fifteen run win in the match.
A man of such dexterity certainly deserves a kit with his proper name on the back at the very least - he should not have to fill in a missing letter S with marker pen. He did do a fairly good job of it though.
The Super Eights stage of the tournament begins tomorrow, with England vs. South Africa and Ireland vs. New Zealand. Do not rule out yet another upset by the Irish, who have already beaten Bangladesh and are set to face a severely depleted Black Caps team at 13.30 GMT.
I shall leave you with another similarly wonderful piece of fielding, not quite as good as Angelo’s, but a stunning catch nonetheless, by Lancashire’s Stephen Parry.
