Officials: Formula One races must ‘follow Highway Code’

Ross Brawn during his time at FerrariThe mainstream media are in a rather large tizz over Formula One boss Ross Brawn’s latest brush with the law.

It seems a stock story these days is to report on figures in the public eye facing driving bans or court appearances to ’shame’ them, to do their dirty washing in public, as is the phrase that’s being doing the rounds since man invented the printing press.

This story is of particular interest because it is seen as ironic that a man so famously associated with a business that requires precision timing and split-second thinking should be caught so blatantly flouting the speed limit.

Unfortunately, what they fail to realise is that Formula One is as much about going fast as it is about smooth cornering and precise braking. It’s little wonder that the odd motorsport figure gets into a bit of trouble over their on-the-road exploits from time to time.

Either way, officials have resolved to introduce a new law that states F1 drivers must obey a 30mph speed limit at all times, both during races and away from the track. An overreaction? Perhaps, but then some argue Ayrton Senna would still be alive today if he weren’t careering into a barrier at over 100mph.

Hey, it wasn’t his fault, it was the car manufacturer’s! — Anybody with half a brain

Now that the projected legal battle regarding that incident has ended, we can safely print the above statement. I think. If you don’t see me within the next week, presume me in jail or perhaps beaten to a pulp by legal eagles.

Whatever the rational explanation, the powers that be have ruled that speeding is dangerous and all drivers must now follow the Highway Code to the letter or face fines of up to £20.

It’s either that or risk life and limb. You don’t want to end up like Felipe Massa, do you? — Brainless official

Contractors are in the process of erecting speed cameras at Silverstone circuit, which have already been filled with concrete by members of the Anti-Gatso League of Great Britain (AGLGB).
