Derren Brown’s ‘Events’ draw complaints from even Brown himself

Published by hindleyite at 6:04 pm under Comment, Television Edit This

Derren Brown does his best impression of Stewie Griffin. Or is he having a poo?Seems I haven’t been the only one moaning about TV magician Derren Brown’s ‘Events’ stunts; Broadcastnow reports the first two shows in the series alone drew a troll-whipping 94 complaints. As expected, his lottery stunt drew the vast majority of these, 70 in fact.

I am not one of these people, as even though I dedicated precious server space to venting my spleen over Dezzer’s big deceit, I never went so far as to make an official complaint to the head watchdog dudes.

It makes me wonder how many people complained off the back of stuff they read on the Internet - if one person wrote in after reading my article, then it’ll all have been worth it. Did any of you lot out there in webland do that? More likely, though, is that people are equally cheesed off with the fact Brown seemingly promised a full explanation, something that never materialised - it doesn’t take a genius to work that out.

It also makes me wonder if Brown frequents Encyclopedia Dramatica (for goodness’ sake, don’t type that into Google), a site that glorifies and encourages petty bullying and web trolling. More recently, he berated his critics in a rather bizarre video uploaded to YouTube, in which he performs his best impression of Stewie from Family Guy. Weird, but a rather impressive impersonation. Is he angling for Seth McFarlane’s job on the show?

Hit the ‘read more’ link to see the video.

Warning: he uses the F-word in this vid.

Still, I suppose Brown’s new ‘nasty’ persona has roped everyone into his series, which may possibly open the floodgates for similar shows in which presenters criticise members of the general public. I can just imagine it on The Secret Millionaire: “You want this tenner, poor man? Eh? Come and get it! Haha, think I’d give away my money to the likes of you? You’re not having it you dirty stinking peasant.”

Coming soon to YouTube: a new series in which The Yak turns nasty and promises people a foolproof drink that makes you live forever, when in actual fact it’s just Robinson’s lemon and barley and bits of dust he swept from the carpet.

NB. a chunk of the complaints from the first show were actually about a comment he made about bonus balls being for ‘women and gays’, or something to that effect.  I neglected to mention this, mainly for effect. Well done for reading this far, you win The Game!
