Sunday Bumper Shout Out: The Best Blog Award

Published by hindleyite at 11:42 am under Awards, Chewing the web, Sunday Special Edit This

Mutant Jeremy Clarkson!

Clarkietron welcomes you to this super special Sunday post!

Well, would you look at that? Another Sunday has rolled around before I even realised it was Friday. Which it isn’t, so I guess that didn’t really make sense.

Anyway, it seems I haven’t actually done a proper blog award shout out in ages. This was brought to my attention recently by Wiggy, who was so kind as to include me in a list of his favourite blogs and also nominate Retro Yakking for a Best Blog Award. To him, I am grateful in more ways than one; firstly, it’s a pleasant reminder that some people actually do read Retro Yakking; secondly, for being such an awesome blogger and providing some much-needed entertainment.

Now it’s my turn to nominate fifteen of my very favourite weblogs for the very same award, so here we go…

Best Blog Award badge

1. An awardee must pass this “BEST BLOG” Award to 15 10 bloggers who he/she thinks have the best and great blogs.

For the new awardee…
2. To receive and accept this award.

  • Copy and save the award
  • Make a post in your blog (like this one and write in your own words)
  • In your post, mention the name of the blogger who awarded you and his/her blog link/URL
  • Please do leave a comment in this post

And oh, do remember to contact the 15 10 bloggers to notify them that they have been chosen for this award.

The Elite fifteen

  • I recently came across Knucklehead Humor on Humorbloggers.com, which I must say is a brilliant way of finding awesome new humour blogs. In particular Knucklehead’s post about the Cookie Monster had me smirking at the corner of my mouth, which is essentially the same as laughing out loud for all you non-yaks out there in Retroland.
  • Kitchen Retro is, in my opinion, a wholly underrated blog that doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. Aside from just being a jolly entertaining read, a lot of work goes into collecting and compiling all those often creepy retro adverts. I really don’t know where she finds them all, but a huge shout goes out to Lidian at KR!
  • We Don’t Know Football is somewhat inaptly named as in actual fact, they seem to be quite knowledgeable about the beautiful game. Who else, for example, would know that Manchester United fans recently threw a paddy over some Walkers crisps?
  • The Department of Injustice is a bit more serious than the other blogs in this list, and is something of a specialist site for those interested in wikis. Nevertheless, it deserves a place on this list for its variously informative and opinionated topics, such as why Wikia suck at so many things. Ah, a man after my own heart you are, Jack Phoenix.
  • One of my long-time favourite weblogs is The Wikihowl Blog, brought to you by the very same people that spawned, well, Wikihowl. Not only does it contain snippets of some of the best content from aforementioned humour site, but a lot of Illogiblog-esque irrelevance as well. Lahvley.

  • Despite the fact I read Suck My Beatles, I don’t really think they suck. In fact, I don’t think the author does either… well, not much anyway. For SMB noobs, you’ll do well to check out 100 Reasons Why The Beatles Suck first of all. I’m also eternally jealous of Das, who recently managed to get a mention on the BBC website.
  • Crotchety Old Man deserves yet another shout out for his prolonged tolerance of the American healthcare system. He’s getting better now, and via his ghost writer/hospital computer terminal is able to provide us with more poop updates than you could care to mention. Get well soon, Crotchety!
  • More retro nostalgia (well, where have we seen that before?) can be found at Giant Robot Invasion, where Matt Willard will do guest posts for $130 and upwards, which is a bit of a bargain… possibly. Seriously, this guy’s almost as good as, if not better than, The Spoony One.
  • To make up for the fact I haven’t been incessantly promoting his blog recently, I’m going to award Doctor Faustroll a virtual award thing that sounds cool but in actual fact means nothing as such. He might have moved home since the last time I mentioned his blog, but the content’s still as outspoken and controversial as ever. Warning! May be NSFW if you are a subscriber to NOMF Weekly.
  • Beflix is more of a website that a blog, but in my opinion deserves some sort of real life award. This is the way glitch art was meant to be, a commercialisation of the humble computer glitch that almost puts my pathetic efforts at the genre to shame.

.
Well, I cheated slightly as I thought fifteen sites was going a bit overboard, so I settled on ten. Well done everyone for entertaining people, or just me at the very least, and don’t forget to stick the image on your blog should you feel so inclined. Cheers.
